St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School students donate Thanksgiving dinners to St. Anthony’s Bread.
Each class from PreK3 through 8th grades, put together boxes for a Thanksgiving dinner to be shared with a needy family through the Parish’s food pantry, St. Anthony’s Bread. Karen Miller, Religion Coordinator for the school noted that, “Each year, as Thanksgiving approaches, we try to share the blessings we have received with families who are less fortunate than we are.” The efforts are part of the school’s monthly service projects.
The Parish-wide project was kicked off by the church’s confirmation team with their Confirmation Food Drive on Saturday, November 2. Along with the donations from the school and confirmation team, the Parish’s Little Saints program also collected boxes.
“St. Anthony’s Bread will be feeding a minimum of 500 families this year.” says Paul Castello, Coordinator of Outreach Ministry. “We do not judge or qualify the need. It is our hope that as members of St. Anthony's Bread, we take the Gospel and Eucharist from the pew to the curb to the neighborhood.”
The SAB Food Pantry is open to the public on Monday and Thursday mornings from 9:00 am to Noon, and Saturdays from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. While the Food Pantry is closed to the public the other days of the week, there are work crews that bag groceries and stock shelves on those days.
Volunteers are always welcome to work in the Food Pantry. The minimum age to volunteer is 16 years old. We can make arrangements for younger volunteers if accompanied by a responsible adult. If you wish to volunteer or need assistance, please contact Paul Castello at 281-419-8700 x 137. For information on St. Anthony’s school, please visit www.staopcs.org
