The gap is the difference between the cost to educate each student and the amount the parent pays for tuition. SAOPCS does not run in a deficit and the Archdiocese requires a balanced budget. As directed by the Archdiocese, the gap is calculated based on the total expenditures in the operating budget. This gap can fluctuate based on a change in enrollment.
HOW DO WE MAKE UP "THE GAP"?
Parish investment & tuition assistance are over $305,000 this year. Add that to the $350,000 goal for fundraising and we’re at $655,000 leaving about $80,000 from the other sources, financial practices, enrollment, etc.
· School Fund/Gala (fundraising)
· General Donations (minimal amount)
· Parish Investment in the school (grants, discounts)
· Tuition Assistance (grants from parish, Archdiocese, donors, scholarships)
· Sound Financial Practices (adjusting the income and expenses to match enrollment, staffing, etc.; controlled expenditures)
· Maintaining high percentage of capacity (filling the seats)
