Astros Caravan Visits St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School
Astros Caravan members shook the roof of St. Anthony of Padua gymnasium Thursday, January 21
st. Three All Star Astros, Dallas Keuchel, Jose’ Altuve, and Ken Giles, along with Astros Mascot Orbit and a host of media and crew, delivered a strong and clear message to St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School students.
Dallas Keuchel, a Golden Glove Award winner, who attended Catholic School as a youth in Oklahoma, stressed the importance of building and keeping the friendships you make in school, not only with peers, but with the teachers and staff of the school you grow up with. “I always strive to honor each school I attended as I gained everything in my career from my education”, stated Keuchel.
SAOPCS’ Athletic Coordinator, Dale Quickel, watched the students engage in the performance. “What an awesome opportunity for SAOPCS students to meet, have fun with and most importantly to hear the players’ personal view on topics such as the importance of a Catholic education, possessing a never give up attitude and to always strive to do your best in all that you do.”
Orbit and friends kept the tempo alive with games and challenges for all students. The event was highly interactive and the baseball pros seemed totally at home with the crowd, playing games one-on-one with the students.
“Seeing Altuve was the best.” beamed Riley Amador, 4
th grader at SAOPCS. “But, I liked Gile’s message to ‘don’t try to change your personality to fit in, if you are new just stay you’.”
Guidance Counselor, Janay O’Connor was instrumental in bringing the Astros to the school. “We feel truly blessed to have had the Astro’s Caravan visit St. Anthony’s. They greeted our students with much enthusiasm and followed it up with a great message. It is so nice to see a wonderful organization like the Astro’s give back to the community in such a generous way!
