OPERATION HOUSE OF PRAYER - In a spirit of almsgiving, our Lenten Service project began on Ash Wednesday and continues through Holy Thursday. We will be collecting funds to help the Missionary Carmelites of St. Teresa of Avila purchase a commercial stove for their House of Prayer.
The House of Prayer is a retreat center here in Houston where the Sisters conduct retreats for men and women who wish to step away from their everyday lives in order to spend time with God. The Sisters provide meals for those who come to the House of Prayer, but their stove is on its “last leg”, and needs to be replaced. We would like to do something to help the Sisters in their mission of serving others. Students will be receiving little paper boxes in which they may save money that they might spend on themselves, and instead, make a sacrifice by donating that money to the Carmelite Sisters.
During our Paduan Pods activity on February 18th, the children talked about how we can prepare our hearts during this Lenten season through prayer, making sacrifices, and almsgiving. They decorated their Lenten boxes, which they took home, with words that describe what we can do for Jesus during Lent.
We ask that the Lenten boxes be returned by March 31, but since it is very difficult to count so much change, we ask that you please convert the change to paper money or checks.
Students who bring in $5 or more can have a Free Dress day on the 31st and those who bring in $1-$4.99 will have a Blue Jean and T-shirt day!
